New definition of the sustainability of fibres
Sustainable TENCEL® is considered a pioneer in the definition of environmentally friendly materials. This is exactly what textile retailers have recognised. In the meantime, major brands of clothing, home textiles and footwear brands have defined sustainability as an important topic and founded the Sustainability Apparel Coalition (SAC) in 2009. As a result, this association developed a common vision for a better environment and better working conditions.
Firstly, the production of clothing and its fabrics such as shirts, trousers, underwear, pajamas, T-shirts, socks, ... but also home textiles such as bed linen, quilts, linen cloths, towels and bed covers do not cause unnecessary environmental damage.
Secondly, the activity must have a positive impact on the employees and their environment.

The production of fibres and fabrics is of crucial importance. Therefore, a material index has been developed from the point of view of sustainability. More specifically, the newly defined MSI (Material Sustainability Index) ranks fabrics and fibres according to environmentally friendly production.
For this reason, the ecological production of the tenCEL ® fibre produced in Lenzing from wood is even clearer in this assessment. This puts sustainable TENCEL® in the top third of the most environmentally friendly materials. Essentially, there are four main criteria that speak for the Lyocell fiber from Lenzing.
TenCEL® the low water consumption is rated as outstanding with 1.9.
Sustainable TENCEL® also impresses because no fertilisers and plant protection products are enriched in the environment (1.8).
Relatively low consumption of fossil fuels (3.3)
and low impact on global warming (2.8) has a positive impact.
